It was an absolut fantastic day out at GMP in Adelboden-Lenk! Here are a couple of photo impressions.
The almost perfect model ski station from @stationdeskiminiatureensuisse is so real and fresh that it can hardly be matched by any model railroad. You have to be a bit crazy to spend your free time creating detailed model worlds. Behind this project are the model couple Gautier Pierrat and Solène Munch, 23 and 24 years old.
The snowpark, the apogee of fun in ski resorts. A playground that accompanies you from your first acne breakout to your first permanent job. You've been immersed in this environment for years, lulled by the melodies of the shapers' transgressive playlist, the air saturated with cannabis vapors. In the snowpark, you feel like a fish in water. You have the equipment, the tricks, and the confidence that goes with it. You're a regular, recognized by shapers and other riders. The absolute symbiosis. The snow park is your home; you feel comfortable there. However…
In Switzerland, you might think, everyone skis. But the way Vico Torriani sang about skiing in 1963 in "Alles fährt Ski" has unfortunately not been the case on Swiss ski slopes for a long time. Sales figures for skis are falling, trend sports such as freeskiing are becoming elitist, subcultures are fragmenting and getting lost in different trends. The globalized social media continue to make consumers believe there is a lively trend and the number of visitors to ski resorts remains constant. But skiing is becoming less and less relevant in Swiss society.
Skiing can be painful. Torn ligaments, dislocated shoulders and fractured tibias are all part of the sport. In freestyle sports more than in any other, concussions are commonplace. Despite growing awareness of the long-term consequences of repeated concussions - particularly in American football, where former athletes have developed early-onset dementia or chronic traumatic encephalopathy, with many deaths as a result - the subject of concussions is still taken lightly, especially in amateur sport. We laugh about taking the crash of the year. You wait a few days, then put your skis back on as if nothing had happened. But in some cases, recovering from a concussion can be far more complex.
Repeated for years by all the ski shop managers, you surely know this dejected statement: "Park skis, it's over, it does not sell anymore". So as an enthusiast, to hear that my sport is doomed to a certain death, it raises questions. In 10 years, will we still be the same 100 park rats turning tirelessly on the ski lifts of the last existing snowparks in Romandie? Breaking the edges of our twintips on metal tubes? Being laughed at by all the Gore-Tex free-riders? Knuckle Mag has investigated for you. Is park skiing really a relic of the past?
"It was like fishing in murky water. The fishing rod with its nylon line for braking and retrieving the camera cableway symbolized the difficulty of timing and framing," Elmar Bossard tells us about his attempts to realize winter sports action shots with a camera cableway.
The skis, which we strap under our boots, we buy mostly in sports shops. A salesperson advises us which model is in and what makes this and that model quality. But the skis also have to look good. Sometimes the design is even the only factor that makes us choose a particular model. So where do they come from, our skis? Who makes them and how is the production done?
